A Brief History of Fulbright Program

The Fulbright Program came into existence shortly after World War II in 1946. It was made possible through the legislation which was sponsored by late Senator J.  William Fulbright of Arkansas. The program was subsequently signed into law by President Harry Truman after it was successfully passed by the U.S. Congress.

The Fulbright Program has been actively servicing over 400,000 people both from the United States and 165 countries in 75 years.

About Fulbright Program

The Fulbright Scholarship Program is one of the many scholarship programs targeted at improving cultural diplomacy, intercultural competence, as well as intercultural relations between citizens of the United State of America and other countries. These aims are achieved through the exchange of knowledge, persons, and skills between these countries and America.

The Fulbright Scholarship Program operates by competitively selecting US citizens including teachers, scholars, students, scientists, artists, and professionals to be beneficiaries of grants or scholarships to enable them to conduct research, study, teach, or display their talents abroad.

Fulbright Scholarship Value and Inclusions

The US Fulbright Scholarship program has been organized to reflect and value the diversity of American society as well as societies overseas.  The program ensures that people from traditionally underrepresented audiences are included in the programs, grants and other activities including the workplace and workforce.

The US Fulbright Scholarship program is open to people irrespective of their color, race, sex, religion, disability, gender, age, national origin, etc.

The US Fulbright Scholarship beneficiaries are receiving stipends between $1000 – $2500. However, the stipend is based on the cost of living of the city or state.

Administration

The  Fulbright Scholarship program is solely administered by the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs of the US Department of States.

The program is administered under police guidelines which was established by the Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board and a number of private organizations.
