What is Excelsior Scholarship Program

This is a scholarship award program offers tuition awards to eligible students who are attending either City University of New York (CUNY) schools or the State University of New York (SUNY) schools.

The program gives students who are residing and schooling in New York State an opportunity to go through their university education without paying tuition fee.

Excelsior Scholarship Requirements

  1. Student must be permanent resident in New York State.
  2. Students that are interested must have either a U-Visa, T-Visa, Temporary Protected Status, or Without Lawful Immigration Status.
  3. Candidate must have attended a New York State High School for at least 2 years or more. The Student must have graduated from NYS high school and also enrolled or enroll at a college in New York State for undergraduate study within 5 years from the date of obtaining a high school diploma in New York State, or
  4. Student must have received an NYS high school diploma equivalence and subsequently enrolled or enroll at a college in New York State for undergraduate study within 5 years from the date of obtaining a high school diploma in New York State, or
  5. Student may have been or will be charged the tuition rate of the New York State resident in-state at CUNY or SUNY college for any reason other than residency.
  6. Interested candidates with no permanent home in New York State should have any of the following:

 

  1. United States Citizen.
  2. Permanent Lawful Resident
  3. A class of refugees paroled by the Attorney General and under his parole/authority regarding admission of aliens in the United States.
  4. Either a U-Visa, T-Visa, Temporary Protected Status, or Without Lawful Immigration Status.
  5. The student must have attended a New York State High School for at least 2 years or more. The applicant must have graduated from the NYS high school and subsequently enrolled or enroll at a college in New York State for undergraduate study within five years after obtaining a high school diploma in New York State, or
  6. Interested student must have received a NYS high school diploma equivalence and subsequently enrolled or enroll at a college in New York State for undergraduate study within five years after obtaining high school diploma in New York State, or
  7. Applicant must have been or will be charged the tuition rate of the New York State resident in-state at CUNY or SUNY college for any reason other than residency.
  8. Must have a household or combined federal adjusted annual income of $125,000 or less.
  9. Candidate must be pursuing either a 4-year or 2-year undergraduate degree at either SUNY or CUNY college. This also includes the statutory colleges at Alfred University and Cornell University.
  10. Enrolled in a minimum of 12 credits per term and completed each year with a minimum of 30 credits continuously.

How do you qualify for Excelsior Scholarship?
